In general, professional event security firms provide the following services:

Security guards

In a world where technology has enveloped the security industry, physical manned guarding remains its heartbeat. Having CCTV or alarms systems detecting wrongdoing is all very well, but means little if you don’t have the professionals on-site to deal with it.

Event security guards are highly versatile and perform many different duties on the day of the event.

These include:
  • Monitoring CCTV
  • Conducting searches
  • Answering attendee queries
  • Surveying the crown for suspicious activity
  • Providing basic first aid
  • Overseeing a safe evacuation if required
  • Liaising with the emergency services and your staff
  • Controlling access
  • Resolving disputes
  • And much more.

All security guards must hold a valid SIA licence demonstrating that they are qualified to provide the above services.

CCTV Towers

CCTV is crucial to the modern event allowing you to observe the entire venue remotely to ensure that nothing is amiss and identify any concerns.

Many venues will have their own CCTV but some events, particularly those held outside such a festivals will require temporary CCTV to be brought in specifically in the form of remote CCTV towers.

These towers stand an imposing 7m off the ground and provide 360 degree coverage of a large area, keeping you and your security abreast of the situation throughout the event.

Security Dogs

Canine security dogs are fantastic assets for conducting searches at the entry point to your venue without holding up the crowd and creating congestion. These units will use their highly honed sense of smell to identify illicit goods such as narcotics, weapons, explosives and more.

As well as ‘sniffer dogs’ security companies will also offer security dogs who are a powerful deterrent to criminals and can cover far more ground than the average human guard.

Access control

event date

It is vital that only those with a valid ticket are able to enter your venue on the day of the event. Not only will security companies provide security guards to monitor entry points and check identifications, but they can also install temporary access control gates that utilise scanners and biometrics for the ultimate verification.

Knowing exactly who is on site at any time is the key to event security and is critical if an evacuation is required.

VIP security

Depending on the nature of your event, some of the attendees may well be at greater risk than others due to their public status. The performers, be it singers or sportsmen, may also have additional security requirements that need to be met.

Event security companies will do just this by developing specific strategies to ensure VIP safety during the event. To do this they may well have to liaise with the private security staff of the individual in question.

How do you know what security services are required?

It is all very well knowing what services a security company offers, but which of them do you actually need at your event? This will depend on a number of different factors including the type of event you are hosting, the number of people you expect to attend, the location of the venue, and much more besides.

Don’t panic! You don’t need to analyse all these factors yourself. An expert local event security company will do this for you, in the form of an event security risk assessment. This assessment will be conducted well prior to the event itself and will involve a full examination of the entire property, identifying high-risk areas, and any unique threats that will be present at your event that you might not have considered.

They will then be able to recommend exactly what measures should be taken to mitigate the risks identified including details such as how many security officers will be needed to carry out the security plan on the day, if temporary CCTV needs to be installed or the venue already has it, and where crowd control barriers need to be erected.
